EPiD 2024 And Onwards

Epidaurus.io is a small currently DEX-launched Web3 & sustainability-focused project with a social venture codified branch. We are in our two-year mark from inception and work on the project.

During Q2 we will mark our official 2-year milestone and the launch of our website. We have had our fair share of growing pains, obstacles, developments, successes, setbacks, and experiences to date.

We wish to illuminate a bit of our value in space and missions as well as our current strategy, evolution, and refinements to date. So first, a little wrap-up of 2023 and some context of why EPiD is here and building globally.

Planetary Boundaries and COP28

This December saw many of the world’s leaders gathered for The United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28). The main takeaways and goals were the world’s first “stocktake” to dramatically increase climate action before the end of the decade and to phase out fossil fuels to net zero for 2050.

The Stocktake effort is the more focused outcome with a recognition to the science community that if we aim to limit global warming to the 1.5 Celsius mark greenhouse gasses need to be cut by 43% by 2030. This would be a more than significant change across many sectors globally to reach that.

Though it may be clear that most of the disruptions we are seeing globally in stable climate, and large weather-related disasters and anomalies quickly becoming the norm across society. We must look at the issue of Earth's Planetary Boundaries and that the science community is clearly showing that 6 of the 9 boundary thresholds are collapsing.

Above is a good overview of planetary boundaries and here is another resource better outlining the six of the nine boundaries being breached.

Finally, just to help conceptualize this in easier terms, even though the science and academic communities as well as almost all governing bodies can agree that climate change is not only real, but with effects we are already see and are living the negative consequences. Climate change is a massive threat to human life on Earth and yes, is man-made.

Still calls to action and real change are painfully slow. So, to highlight that a change and goal to limit a rise in global temperatures by 1.5 Celsius. I know we have all heard that number again and again so in the simplest terms. What does that change in temperatures mean?

That since the last ice age and through geological study and evidence the Holocene age, (our current geological Epoch) is from the last Ice age to now, approximately 10,000 years. During this period there was no significant change in global temperatures above 0.5 degrees Celsius.

This stability is what gave rise to all human societies and our history, this stability is and has been degraded exponentially since the Industrial Revolution.

Sustainability and its direct correlation to Eliminating Poverty

As look for ways to effect positive change to combat the growing climate crisis, we must evaluate our actions, and their knock-on effects in all forms. So, resources that are a helpful start might be to understand and measure one’s “carbon footprint” A well-known charity and tool for this can be found at The Carbon Literacy project

During this past year, we have continued our professional development and have had the privilege of some exciting resources and contacts at UN learning tools in sustainability.

This resource can better outline the proven correlations between combating poverty and reaching sustainable development goals (SDGs). Though this data is fluid we can roughly estimate that in 2024 almost half the planet lives in poverty at under $5 a day.

To reach sustainable goals, we must work with all stakeholders, and make sure that people who know and have ancestral-owned land are benefiting from any land conservation or sustainability efforts involved.

Climate justice must be a chief consideration in such that treating all things and people the same does not also equate to what is fair. That veiled attacks from richer nations regarding refugees and border security can already be argued to include more and more climate refugees that richer nations were the underlining cause in creating and arguably making more authoritarian steps to ignore in the name of “national interest”.

Finally, I would like to share the amazing work that a large and longtime consortium of Academics, and leaders have put together in the form of a book published called Earth4All  and their ongoing work through The Club of Rome which we fully support and aim to be better aligned with moving forward.

Embracing ReFi (Regenerative Finance)

ReFi though a relatively new concept and is gaining a lot of traction, Regenerative Finance combines Decentralized Finance (DeFi) with positive social/economic and environmental goals. Epidaurus.io since its inception has pioneered and embraced this exact methodology.

As CEO I am very pleased to share again that these past months to date, I have had the privilege of being part of the first Cohort in ReFi through ECOTA and the Frankfurt School of Business and Management, Blockchain Center, with some 200 experts, and global industry players.

A critical aspect of this principle is that we are more than just embracing ways to effect change to become net zero or becoming carbon neutral.

Though there is value there it simply is not going to be enough and we as individuals, industry, and governing entities must take active ongoing measurable action for environmental regeneration.

Donut Economics & Epidaurus

The Donut Economy consists of two concentrated rings, The social foundation, ensuring that no one is left falling short of life’s essentials, and then an ecological ceiling, ensuring that humanity does not collectively overshoot our planetary boundaries.

Looking at our current situation efforts from our last generation have fallen short on both tasks. Epidaurus fully embraces this model and sees it as the only way forward in global economics.

2024 outlook and shift in our project's immediate focus

A new direction for good, new pilot projects. As we dive into 2024, we are always moved by our underlying goals. How can we make a difference in sustainability in Web3?

The problems globally are great and the worsening effects of climate change and what this decade represents are all too clear. So, in addressing the issues of climate change as an individual and in societies we have the start simply with what actions one does in daily life that have the greatest impact, footprint, and even our carbon shadow.

As most may know one's carbon footprint the greatest areas are in our homes, energy and heating, transportation, and diet. On a larger scale, it also must be understood the wider scope of understanding that poverty and sustainability are linked.

Our long-term aspirations at Epidaurus are unchanged, shifting and moving into larger renewable energy projects. Still, to date, we are not quite at the scale of a project to move into these larger energy project areas yet. However, we are very pleased with our progress to move forward on these energy projects in time, as well as the growing network in that sector we have ties with.

So, we are focusing on a new pilot project “AgroRegnerations” that utilizes, education, land regeneration, and agricultural products especially food, for small and larger stakeholders, and a goal of measurable impact for positive change.

How can small landowners actively make efforts in land regeneration, and gain more sustainable and higher-value products from their land, while avoiding mono-cropping and all environmentally detrimental effects of these efforts? And then how can we raise smaller landholders in the global south out of poverty, while producing more food, that does not go to waste to local communities?

All in turn improving the lives within these local communities. Partnering with larger institutional land conservation efforts, Universities, NGOs, and government entities.

All these efforts are to be measured and shared with full transparency through Epidaurus, and with a mind to scale. Our first pilot projects will be focused in three locations in the global south, beginning in one island of Indonesia, Kenya Africa, and Bangladesh, in two small similar projects in rural southern Europe, Catalunya and Aragon Spain, as well as in Abruzzo Italy.

Upon completion of the successful launch of these first smaller projects, we hope to expand in these locations and then a next step goal into the Amazon and other rural areas of North America.

Our focus and goals in these pilot projects will work in phases but the overall goals are to

  • Land Regeneration on a small scale through education and small practical applications to shift from mono-cropping, science-based, and more principles known in permaculture.

  • Food production aims to reduce waste of these natural commodities to better benefit the end users, while trying to get small stakeholders and landowners on a higher value chain, for the global south, making all efforts to raise these stakeholders out of poverty.

  • Greater benefit to the wider communities in proximity to these pilot projects and more SDGs

  • Measuring and facilitating these efforts and the impact of these through Epidaurus, with transparency and measurable achievements in mind to scale.

Partnerships, team

We are currently finalizing these pilot projects into actionable and scalable real solutions and are in the works with some new team members, accelerator partner programs, as well as education resources all to be made public in chapters during Q1 2024.

Ongoing resources to share in 2024

As of 2023 I am Carbon Literate through the Carbon Literacy Project and a small consortium of academics, foundations, and like-minded individuals, we are looking to roll out a course in Carbon Literacy, specific to “Fin-Tech, ReFi & Cryptocurrencies” to be available later in 2024 all in support our ongoing efforts of Sustainability in Web3, to combat misinformation in the Web3 sector and as always to better on board more of the population to digital solutions to daily challenges in life with ones environmental impact in mind.

Some FAQs from our community going into 2024.

  • We are still partnered with CoinStore but have withheld our CEX listing and still do not have a set date to launch there for 2024 until daily trading warrants such a move.

  • Through contacts at CoinStore, we may list on another CEX first if daily transactions and other parameters are met and warrant that move.

  • Our website will be updating our milestones and projections for this year all Q1 accordingly.

  • Though we do not pump and over-publish on our socials for a lot of Q3-Q4 2023 on these channels, they are live and managed.

  • Communications are always open via our website and at info@Epidaurus.io to our community, Holders, partners, advisors, and team we would like to thank you for being with us for the journey so far and look forward to continued growth and development into the new year and all next markets.

  • Staking is available for new Holders of EPiD with purchase and rewards are offered at 80% - 50% and 8% for staking 6 months 3 months or 1 month with interest paid out daily. Staking is live via our website staking portal. These rates will remain until Q2 and then be reduced by approximately half. So early holders and adapters to our project can still reap the greatest benefits for all Q1 2024.

Finally, I would just like to another moment to thank all team members past and present, associates, community members, early HODLers, investors, and all supporters who have been part of our journey so to date and moving forward. Thank you!!!

EPiD, from humble beginnings, is still very much ….

…that little crypto that can!
